SiteOps-----Essential Tools in Site Planning

A large portion of both planning and development costs are incurred during the site planning phase. This is a key component of land development projects in that it affects all development and construction costs as the project moves forward. Providing clients with options on early site design aids them in making the right investment decision.

Stantec uses a powerful tool that enables a client’s team to create multiple site design options along with estimated construction costs for each very early in the site consideration process. SITEOPS® is a software tool that allows our team to perform real time feasibility simulations to optimize preliminary site designs and estimate probable costs very early in the planning process. SITEOPS allows us to create and compare multiple site variations for our client’s consideration, make major revisions to the site layout in real time, such as relocating the building or buildings, driveway locations, parking fields and parking orientation, storm water piping/detention, sports fields, setbacks, etc. We can then develop and analyze grading plans along with determining opinions of probable cost, generate side–by–side site cost optimization reports that include 2D and 3D images of the designs. Using SITEOPS, the Stantec team then creates the final design using the best and optimum site design chosen by the client. These images can then be imported for use with other software applications such as BIM, Sketch Up, Civil 3D, etc. The client is engaged in the process every step of the way.

This software is invaluable for any design professional or developer involved in planning and estimating projects. Projects can range from single buildings, multiple buildings, parks, sports facilities, etc.
